Zola Marcus Mid 20th century abstract fabric and paper collage

Zola Marcus was born in Brooklyn and spent most of his life in New York. His style began to take shape when, in 1953, he attended the Institute at Black Mountain College. Influenced by his early training with Hans Hoffman and Fernand Leger, Marcus then studied with Joe Fiore and Esteban Vicente at Black Mountain where he developed his particular style of abstract work. In 2017, the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center mounted a solo show entitled Zola Marcus: Kinetic Origins.
